McCain Should Fight Fire with Fire, Right Now!

Although I have no connection to the McCain campaign, nor any in other high places for that matter, I have read a great deal about John McCain, as well as the current economic meltdown.

Here is what I think.  This is an opinion, perhaps well-grounded, but maybe not.  You’ll have to be my judge on that.

Last week, when some huge financial names and their companies were biting the dust, John McCain saw the possibility for an economic collapse that would not only set this Country back years in development and cost millions of jobs, but could also leave us and our allies very, very vulnerable to every enemy in the world.  He did what a true statesman would do, when he believed our Nation was in grave peril.  He put politics aside and suspended his campaign.

I have no doubt that he spoke with Senator Obama and asked him to do the same.  There were reports that the two men spoke beforehand, but Senator Obama refused to join with Senator McCain and make a joint statement of unified strength for the sake of the Country.  That is what I believe happened.

Senator McCain may have felt at that juncture that he had no choice, but to proceed, knowing that Obama would be called upon to return to Washington and be part of the solution that needed to be worked out for the protection of America.  Unfortunately, we learned later that Senator Obama resorted to turning the big White House meeting into another political platform, took center stage, and that Senator McCain did not even speak.  He listened.  And was rewarded by petulant Democrats and some Republicans, who evidently stormed out of the meeting altogether, anxious to speak to the press and point fingers at one another.

Senator McCain’s miscalculation, I think, was believing that Senator Obama and the Democrats would indeed rise to this occasion and put the Country first.  They refused.  Even after an entire weekend’s work, with at least something better on the floor of the House than the bill they were trying to ram down our throats last week, a bill with no protections whatsoever, Nancy Pelosi could not restrain her partisanship for even 15 minutes.  Perhaps the Obama campaign has instructed all Democrats, especially the leaders, to make sure this fiasco continues unabated until as near as possible to the election.

Senator McCain, I believe, was honestly trying to present a united front to the world, and Democrats have demonstrated that their winning and taking over the country is more important than anything else.  They remind me of a group of jealous children fighting over a toy.  By the time they are finished with their fight, the whole toy — America — is in little bits and pieces and not worth a thing.

Now, however, Senator McCain owes it to us to come out fighting, and strongly, denounce these tactics, nail the Democrats to the wall of their own malfeasance, and at the very least, go down with one of hell of a fight. This is no time for playing nicely.  One must fight fire with fire and be willing to get burned, or else only the bad guys will have matches from now on.   That’s no way to live, in my opinion.
