Yes, brainwashing happens even among a free people.  False savior-seeking is as old as the hills and doesn’t show any sign of letting go its ferocious hold upon human nature.  But the cost of giving false saviors political power has a very bad history.  The cult of personality that elected this president is beginning to crumble.
